Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid provided a grim update on running back Isiah Pacheco 's injury status while addressing reporters on Thursday (September 19).

"I can't give you a time when he'll return," Reid said. "We'll just see if it's this season or next season. We'll see how he does as he goes here."

Pacheco, 25, was reportedly expected to be out four to eight weeks due to a broken fibula he suffered during the Chiefs' Week 2 win against the Cincinnati Bengals, NFL Network 's Ian Rapoport reported on Monday (September 16). The two-time Super Bowl champion was seen on crutches and had his right foot in a walking boot while leaving Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday (September 15).

"This was kind of the fear as he was leaving the stadium," Rapoport reported on Monday. "He was in a walking boot and on crutches. Any time they have to look at the bone that's not good. He's going to have more tests today to see if there is associated damage ... if there is damage to the ligaments."

The Chiefs signing free agent former Pro Bowl running back Kareem Hunt to their practice squad following Pacheco's injury. Hunt, 29, spent his first two seasons with the Chiefs, which included recording a career-best 1,327 rushing yards, which also the league, during his rookie season in 2017.

The former Toledo standout was waived by Kansas City in November 2018 after a video surfaced showing him pushing and kicking a woman, which resulted in an eight-game suspension after he signed with the Cleveland Browns the following season. Hunt recorded 4,436 yards and 40 touchdowns on 1,030 rushing attempts, as well as 226 receptions for 1,890 yards and 17 touchdowns in 38 starts and 91 career appearances.
