Anna Delvey addresses her 'nothing' comment on 'DWTS'

Anna Delvey is doubling down on her viral comment about her brief tenure on Dancing With the Stars .

After being booted off the show in the first elimination round — alongside fellow competitor Tori Spelling — Delvey shocked the audience when host Julianne Hough asked what she would take away from the experience. "Nothing," Delvey replied bluntly.

Days later, Delvey joined Spelling on her misSPELLING podcast to say that she replied that way "because that was the truth."

"You guys told me what I'm supposed to do. I tried to do it, and then I still was rejected," Delvey said of her time on the show. "And, I'm taking away nothing. This is what I'm taking away from it, because your advice was worthless. The advice did not pay off for me, even though I tried to follow it."

"Thats totally fair," Spelling replied.

Delvey continued, "I know people were trying to interpret my answer in different ways, but no, not really. I really did not take away much from this experience."

She also admitted that she felt pressure to be "on the defensive" given all the backlash that came from her being cast on the show in the first place. Delvey, whose real name is Anna Sorokin, was convicted in 2019 for posing as a German heiress to swindle thousands from New York elites, hotels, and banks. Her DWTS outfit came complete with a bedazzled ankle monitor .

Speculating about her loss with Spelling, Delvey argued that her reputation contributed to her early elimination from the show, adding that she finds the results "a little bit unbelievable" when comparing her performance to certain other competitors.

Delvey further said that it "felt like a waste of time" for the show to invite her on and have producers defend her inclusion, only to "just to discard me so easily."

She added, "But it is what it is and it's fine, And I never had high expectations on the show for myself."

The day after her final episode aired, Delvey told the hosts of Good Morning America that her favorite part of the experience was " getting eliminated ."

Delvey's response to the show has not been well received by many of its stars and alums. Former pro Cheryl Burke said that it " left a bad taste " in her mouth, and Maksim Chmerkovskiy called her "a s- dancer."

In an exclusive interview with EW , judge Carrie Ann Inaba admitted that she was "taken aback" by Delvey's "nothing" comment, adding, "That was dismissive not only of the opportunity she was given, of her wonderful and supportive partner Ezra in his debut season, but also of all of us who work on the show-from the dancers to behind the scenes to the creative team."

But the response has not been pure negativity. Delvey's dancing partner, Ezra Sosa, wasn't particularly upset when he unpacked the moment with EW , insisting, "she learned something!"

"When we were eliminated, I could tell from the jump just staring at her face, she was a little upset about it," he said. "So I was like, 'She's going to go off on Julianne. I can see it happening.'" When she made her already-infamous "nothing" remark, Sosa said it "honestly didn't [hurt my feelings] when she said that. I was like, 'Facts, queen.'"

As for Delvey, she was equipped with an attitude of indifference front he very start. Ahead of her DWTS debut, she told EW that, for her, winning the mirrorball trophy would mean "nothing, really. I don't know."
