ARLnow receives court authorization to publish legal notices
ARLnow has received court authorization to publish legal notices for Arlington County and the City of Falls Church.
A circuit court judge approved the petition from ARLnow publisher Local News Now LLC late last month. That followed the enactment of a new state law earlier this year that made Virginia the first in the nation to allow legal notices on online-only local news sites.
Legal notices — also known as public notices — will now be published on ARLnow's homepage, a dedicated landing page , and our email newsletter . Notices can be submitted via an online form and will typically be published within one business day.
ARLnow's sister site, FFXnow , received a separate court authorization to publish legal notices for Fairfax County.
ARLnow and FFXnow are the first online-only sites in the D.C. area to receive such authorization.
For much of its nearly 15 year existence, ARLnow has been contacted by business owners and other parties seeking to place notices for matters like Virginia ABC permit applications. Until this point, ARLnow employees have had to refer potential legal notice advertisers to competing print publications.
ARLnow acquired the digital assets of one such publication, the GazetteLeader newspaper, in September, as it ceased its print edition.
Other local print publications still offering legal advertising services include the Washington Post and the Washington Times, the latter of which is used by the Arlington County government for advertisement of meetings and proposed ordinances.
