HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — An Evansville man is facing drug charges after police say they found him in possession of narcotics consistent with dealing and marijuana inside a children's backpack.

Officers say they initiated a traffic stop where Marvin Johnson IV stepped out of the vehicle. Police say they caught a smell of marijuana when Johnson opened the door for his drivers license.

Due to Johnson's alert of being a firearm offender, a pat down was initiated where police say they found a large paper bag containing pills which were identified as Oxycodone.

The pat down also revealed $520 in cash which police say is consistent with dealing illegal drugs.

Police say they asked Johnson if there was anything in the vehicle they should be worried about such as firearms or marijuana. "Might be," said Johnson.

A search of the vehicle brought out a Disney Frozen backpack that contained a large baggie of marijuana along with a roll of zipper bags consistent with illegal dealing.

The search also revealed a 10mm handgun inside the glove compartment.

It is said Johnson had a prior conviction for Escape. He was charged with Dealing Narcotics and Marijuana as well as Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon.
