Art Garfunkel And Family Perform At Cafe Carlyle In New York
The Café Carlyle in New York this week is offering an exclusive residency featuring the legendary singer Art Garfunkel, Sr., his wife, Kathryn Luce Garfunkel, and two sons, Art Garfunkel, Jr., and Beau Garfunkel.
The family will be in residence at the café from November 12 to 16.
The residency follows the release last Friday, November 8, by Telamo/BMG of the first album by Art, Jr. and Art, Sr., "Father and Son."
One of the singles on the album is the Garfunkels' version of Cyndi Lauper's global hit, "Time After Time."
Art Garfunkel, Jr. said, "'Time After Time' is one of my all-time favorite songs from the '80s. The title is perfect for this album because it also speaks to our relationship, the bond between my father and me. First came the senior, now the junior - and here we are together again. It goes on, the next cycle begins... my father shows me the way, he takes the next step with me."
Art Garfunkel, Sr. added, "It felt like a dream. It was just wonderful. I love working with Junior. And I readily admit that my son is the better singer of the two of us."
The two men even stopped by the studio where Lauper once sang the original version for a video shoot.
Telamo/BMG said, "The sound of the Eighties was formative for the younger singer, who speaks fluent German: 'Yes, I'm the one who's really into the eighties... that's why I brought those titles into play.'"
The album also features timeless jazz standards from the Great American Songbook, plus songs by the Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel and Cat Stevens, whose "Father And Son" also provided the album's title.
According to the Café Carlyle, Kathryn Luce Garfunkel is "an accomplished actress and vocalist known for her solo performances at Feinstein's at the Regency, Birdland and Guild Hall, among others. Her dynamic stage presence and vocal prowess have charmed audiences across the globe, and her performances at many esteemed venues such as Carnegie Hall further cement her status as a versatile artist. Kathryn is an accomplished actress in her own right and has starred in numerous off-Broadway productions, including several Tennessee Williams plays."
Rounding out the Garfunkel family ensemble at the Carlyle is the youngest member of the family, Beau Daniel Garfunkel, a 2024 honors graduate of Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York City. The café said Beau, "a budding composer, performer and harpist, has already made his mark with original scores for student films and background vocals at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall. His passion for folk music and innovative approach to pop production highlight a promising future in the music and film industries."
It also said the Garfunkel residency "promises to be a celebration of the past, present and future of a musical dynasty. Audiences will be treated to an evening of beloved classics, heartfelt duets and original compositions that showcase the Garfunkel family's enduring talent and deep connection to music. The residency will also feature stories from their lives, offering a personal and touching narrative that complements the musical performances."
