One man was killed and another injured in an attack at a home on the Soboba Band of Luiseno Indians Reservation in San Jacinto, authorities said Thursday.

The deadly assault occurred shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday in the 43200 block of Castile Canyon Road, just east of Soboba Road, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Sgt. Jarred Bishop said that patrol deputies were called to the location to investigate reports of an assault with a deadly weapon and discovered "an adult male suffering from traumatic injuries inside a residence."

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Bishop didn't provide details on the specific weapon used.

He said a second man was located "with non-life-threatening injuries."

Neither victim was identified.

The injured man was taken to a regional trauma center for treatment and was expected to recover.

Central Homicide Unit detectives were working Thursday to identify the suspect or suspects involved in the fatal attack, a possible motive for which was not disclosed.

Anyone with information was asked to contact investigators at 951-955-2777.
