Will Smith and Martin Lawrence's blockbuster summer hit Bad Boys: Ride or Die is debuting on Netflix this week.

The fourth installment in the Bad Boys movie series, Bad Boys: Ride or Die opened in theaters on June 7 before making its digital streaming premiere via premium video on demand on July 23.

Directed Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah—who helmed the 2020 hit Bad Boys for Life—returned to direct Bad Boys Ride or Die .

Bad Boys: Ride or Die picks up not long after the events of Bad Boys for Life, where Miami Police Detective Mike Lowrey (Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Lawrence), suffered the tragic loss of their mentor, police Captain Conrad Howard (Joe Pantaliano). In Bad Boys: Ride or Die, Conrad is posthumously framed as a corrupt officer, so Mike and Marcus are determined to clear his name.

To reveal the truth, however, the duo needs the help of Armando Aretas (Jacob Scipio), who is Conrad's assassin and the son Mike never knew he had. That won't be easy either, since assassins want Armando dead the minute he steps out of jail.

Smith Lauds 'Powerful' Concepts In 'Bad Boys: Ride Or Die'

In addition to all of the action in the movie, Bad Boys: Ride Or Die finds Mike and Marcus dealing with some difficult circumstances as they get older, including loss, mental well-being and anxiety.

"It's a popcorn movie. It's fun, it's exciting. You laugh, you cheer, but really at the core of it, you're laughing but it's some powerful concepts in there," Smith told Vibe in an interview before the film's theatrical release. "What Mike is struggling with, and how he makes his way out of that... I just love being able to touch on those concepts and ideas. [Like] mental health and then connect it to spirituality, all in a way that's fun, so it is not getting hit over the head ... I love being able to do that in a summer blockbuster."

Bad Boys: Ride or Die jump-started a sluggish summer movie season when it opened in theaters on June 7 According to the film's distributor, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Bad Boys: Ride or Die grossed $193.6 million domestically and $210.5 million internationally sales for a worldwide box office total of $404.1 million.

Per The Numbers , Bad Boys: Ride or Die had a $100 million production budget before prints and advertising.

Rotten Tomatoes critics gave the movie a 65% "fresh" rating based on 250 reviews, while the site's Audience Score was 97% "fresh" based on 5,000-plus verified user ratings.

Rated R, Bad Boys: Ride or Die makes its SVOD premiere on Netflix on Tuesday.
