Basin Bites: Continuing a family dream

MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – In this week's Basin Bites, we visit Addie's Diner, an American restaurant with a nostalgic vibe right when you step in, mixed with some classic diner dishes.

The backstory as to how Addie's came about is that owner Natalie Garcia's grandfather wanted to serve coffee to community members while the family owned a cell phone store. This played into his daughter (Garcia's mother), who wanted to have her own restaurant.

With encouragement from the grandfather, Garcia's mother opened up shop in 2011, and the rest is history from there. As for the name, Garcia explained to me that it is named after her daughter Addison.

"My grandpa had like encouraged my mom to do it because he wanted to serve coffee," says Garcia. "And then he got cancer and passed away. She did not want to open it right after he passed away but they pushed her to do it and here we are."

Unfortunately, both Garcia's grandfather and mother are no longer here with us, but the family decided to keep pushing and live out their legacy. Garcia says that it's an awesome feeling to keep the restaurant going because if both were here today, they'd be proud at what's been accomplished.

Unlike most restaurants and food spots on Florida Ave, Garcia's mother wanted to steer away from only Mexican food and go towards traditional American while adding the Hispanic twist.

From the moment you step inside the establishment, you see the vinyl records hanging from the ceiling, album covers on the walls, a jukebox, and many more vintage items.

If you're someone that enjoy a blast from the past with 60's era vibe, paired up with a great and tasteful meal Addie's is the place to be.

Addies is located at 304 E Florida Ave and business hours are Tuesday through Thursday from 6am to 2pm.
