Baylor loses to Colorado 38-31 in overtime in first conference game of the season

BOULDER, Colorado (KWTX) - Baylor falls to Colorado 38-31 in overtime in their first conference game of the year.

Baylor's defense came into the game as the number on ranked passing defense and number 12 total defense in the nation and looked to keep the Colorado offense in check.

Baylor would strike first midway through the first quarter with a 32-yard field goal following a 54-yard punt return by Baylor's Josh Cameron.

On the following drive, Colorado responded with a 75-yard drive capped off with a 2-yard touchdown run by Colorado's quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

Baylor came alive in the second quarter, scoring three touchdowns.

Early in the second quarter, Robinson connected with Monaray Baldwin who extended for a spectacular 30-yard touchdown catch to reclaim the lead 10-7.

Midway through the second quarter, Colorado tied the game up at 10-10 with a 43-yard field goal.

Following the Colorado field goal, Jamaal Bell goes untouched and returns the kickoff 101-yards for a touchdown to extend Baylor's lead 17-10.

Baylor continued to pile it on with a 45-yard touchdown run by Robinson on fourth and two to take a 24-10 lead.

Just before halftime, Sanders connects with Omarion Miller on a 58-yard touchdown to cut into Baylor's lead.

After both offenses were quiet most of the third quarter, the Colorado offense put together the first scoring drive of the second half.

Sanders connected with Travis Hunter for two big chunk plays near the end of the third quarter to setup Micah Welch for a 2-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 24-24.

Colorado got the ball back early in the fourth but was stood up by Baylor's defense on fourth and eight to give the ball back to Baylor's offense.

Baylor moved the ball down field and capped off the drive with a 24-yard touchdown pass from Robinson to Hal Presley, taking a 31-24 lead with under six minutes left in the game.

On Colorado's next drive, Baylor's defense got back-to-back sacks, forcing the Buffaloes to punt. Josh Cameron returned the punt 20 yards to get Baylor in field goal range.

Baylor's offense struggled to move the ball on the following drive but was in range to attempt a 45-yard field goal. Baylor's kicker Isaiah Hankins missed the kick wide right, giving Colorado the ball back with just over two minutes left and one time out.

As time expired, Sanders launched a pass and connected with LaJohntay Wester for a 43-yard touchdown to send the game to overtime.

Colorado got the ball first in overtime and quickly scored a touchdown to take a 38-31 lead.

As Baylor was driving in for a touchdown in overtime, Colorado punched the ball out and forced a fumble before Dominic Richardson could get in the endzone.

The ball rolled out of the back of the endzone for a touchback, winning Colorado the game.

Robinson finished the game going 11/21 for 148 yards and 2 touchdowns through the air and added 82 yards and 1 touchdown on the ground.

Baylor's defense got pressure on Sanders all game, racking up 8 sacks.

Sanders finished the game for Colorado going 25/41 for 341 yards and 2 touchdowns through the air and added 26 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Baylor heads back home to prepare to play BYU next Saturday, Sept. 28.
