Bicyclist airlifted after Friday evening crash in Horseheads
HORSEHEADS, N.Y. ( WETM ) — A bicyclist was airlifted after being hit by a car in Horseheads on Friday evening.
According to the Chemung County Sheriff's Office, a car and a bicycle crashed on Grand Central Avenue near Hemlock Street in the Town of Horseheads on Nov. 15. An 18 News Reporter who was at the scene says the crash happened shortly after 5:30 p.m.
Authorities say both the car (a Nissan sedan) and the bicycle were traveling north on Grand Central when the bike turned into the car's path for unknown reasons.
The person who was riding the bike sustained serious injuries, was taken to Arnot Ogden Medical Center, and was airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital. Authorities did not say if the driver of the car was injured during the crash.
The Nissan's front windshield was smashed as a result of the crash, and the car's airbags deployed.
The Chemung County Sheriff's Office, the Elmira Heights Police Department, the Elmira Heights Fire Department, and Erway Ambulance responded to the scene.
The sheriff's office says more details about the crash will be released when it's available.
