Blizzard Warning: Heavy snow falling Snowstorm in eastern New Mexico

The first snow fall of the season is a big one in eastern New Mexico.

Heavy snow is falling in Union County.

Around 11 a.m. MT, the National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning.

According to Union County Emergency Management, both of the main highways, Hwy 64/87 northbound out of Clayton and Hwy 56 out of Clayton, are closed.

About 30 cars got stranded in the Des Moines area. Emergency Management and Sheriff Curtis Skaggs went there to help out.

Government buildings in Clayton are closed.

Small businesses are staying open as long as they can.

Clayton Public Schools are remote on both Thursday and Friday.
