Bloomington man arrested after reportedly leaving scene of fatal crash

BLOOMINGTON ( 25News Now ) - A Bloomington man was arrested after allegedly leaving the scene of a fatal crash Sunday.

Police said the man, Michael C. Mitchell, 25, was arrested on preliminary charges of:

  • Reckless homicide
  • Failure to report an accident involving death
  • Faliure to report an accident involving injury
  • Driving on a revoked license
  • Failure to give information/redner aid in an accident involving injury or death
  • Unlawful use of weapons/felon possess/use firearm prior
  • Officers were called around 7:50 p.m. Sunday to the area of Fox Creek and Beich roads.

    According to Bloomington Police, a sedan with two people was traveling westbound on Fox Creek Road, colliding with a sedan traveling eastbound. The only person in the sedan traveling east suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

    The driver of the westbound sedan allegedly abandoned the vehicle and left, police said. The passenger, a 27-year-old woman, was taken to a local hospital where she died.

    Her autopsy is pending.

    Mitchell, the driver, was located at a nearby apartment complex.

    He was arrested and taken to the McLean County Jail.

    The crash is being investigated by the police department, McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team and the McLean County Coroner's Office.
