Brown holds onto District 4 seat on Genesee County Board of Commissioners

enesee County Commissioner Beverly Brown, D-Flint, has won her first general election challenge, defeating Republican Steve Minnock of Flint, according to unofficial results from the Genesee County Clerk's Office. Brown received 12,188 votes in the general election for District 4 on Tuesday, Nov. 5, compared to 11,058 votes for Minnock, according to the unofficial results. She was appointed to the county board in January 2023, after former Commissioner Domonique Clemons was appointed as the county's clerk-register in December 2022.Related: Live: Genesee County election results for Nov. 5, 2024 Minnock defeated Michele Sheeran in the Aug. 6 primary election, more than doubling his opponent's vote total and earning the right to challenge Brown in Tuesday's election. The 4th District that Brown will continue to represent includes Mundy Township, a part of southern Flint, and a portion of Grand Blanc Township. Brown has worked 11 years in banking, 16 years in career and technical education, three years in college administration, and eight years at the Michigan Department of Education. Minnock has previously owned two small businesses and currently manages a family business that has been servicing the greater Flint area for 98 years. There are nine members of the county commission. Commissioners are elected to four-year terms and earn $36,984 annually.
