Browns ranked at the top of the NFL again for its analytics usage

Many power rankings across the league place the Cleveland Browns somewhere in the middle of the pack after the first two weeks of the season. The defense is once again the strength, as the offense has struggled to produce many points, leading to continued questions about the team's quarterback situation.

That is the narrative about the team from most national outlets covering the league in its entirety. Cleveland just ranked at the top of the NFL in one category according to an anonymous survey once again.

If you guessed the 'analytics department,' you would be correct. According to ESPN's Seth Walder, the Browns were awarded the top spot according to an anonymous poll of analytics staffers across the league.

For Cleveland, winning this title is becoming "old hat" as they have won it every year since 2021 when they took the title from the Baltimore Ravens . This year's survey was sent to an analytics staff member of all 32 teams in the NFL and asked various questions about the usage of advanced metrics.

The Browns swept three major categories to win the award including:

Which NFL team is the most analytically advanced overall?

Which team produces the highest level of analytics work?

Which team incorporates analytics the most into its decision-making?

A staff member from another AFC team said, "I just think they're so far ahead in terms of who they have on staff. Their data collection is advanced. The infrastructure that they've built over the past, like, decade still puts them ahead of the rest of the league."
