Burger King shut by health officials as disgusting conditions are revealed

Health officials shut down a Burger King after they found raw sewage coming up through a drain in the kitchen.

The grim discovery was the most serious of of five violations at the Hernando, Florida location.

'Sewage/wastewater backing up through floor drain in kitchen in between hand wash sink and food bagging area,' inspectors from Florida wrote .

'Observed employees walking through wastewater to bag orders.'

Other concerns included an overflowing dumpster, water leaking from the ceiling into the dining area - where buckets were placed to collect the drips - and a dirty floor with standing water.

The Burger King was shut for the rest of the day after the inspection on September 10.

It re-opened the next day after a follow-up inspection showed that the restaurant met inspection standards, although the dumpster overflowing was still an issue.

The closure this month was the second time the Hernando Burger King has been shut by health officials .

In June 2015, inspectors found 12 problems, including three high priority concerns - including around 15 cockroaches and flying insects in the kitchen.

Burger King did not reply to a request from the DailyMail.com to comment on the discover of raw sewage in the kitchen of the Hernando restaurant.

The Burger King in Hernando is not the first fast food restaurant where concerns about cleanliness have been raised.

Last week, a mom has claimed she found maggots squirming inside her McDonalds burger leaving her 'so sick' she lost seven pounds.

The anonymous American woman, who took to TikTok , said she was treating herself to a Big Mac at a US branch when she allegedly made the gruesome discovery.

After tucking into her meal, she 'immediately' began suffering agonizing stomach pain and stopped in her tracks.

It was only after she opened her burger bun, she says that she found white 'little worms' inside her meal.

In the stomach-churning video, posted on the platform, the revolting maggots are seen wriggling on the beef patty.

Meanwhile, an employee at a different McDonald's was caught catching dozens of flies - and displaying them in clear plastic cups in the kitchen.

The unnamed member of staff ultimately caught so many flies in various cups that he was able to build a 'colosseum' with the clear plastic traps - which was detailed by his coworker in a Reddit post on the McDonaldsEmployees forum.

'Old pictures here but a coworker caught like 40 flies in cups, this has to be some sort of violation right,' the coworker further wondered.
