ACLU appoints executive director

Libby Skarin has been named executive director of the ACLU of North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming.

Skarin joined the ACLU in 2014 as the policy director for the ACLU of South Dakota. In 2020, Skarin was promoted to the chapter's campaigns director position, where she was responsible for developing and implementing effective, nonpartisan issue campaign strategies and initiatives throughout North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming. In 2023, Skarin was named deputy executive director.

Prior to joining the ACLU, Skarin served as an assistant attorney general for the state of Iowa and worked with the Sioux City Human Rights Commission as well as Iowa Legal Aid to provide assistance to underserved communities.

Originally from Iowa, Skarin is a graduate of the University of Iowa and the University of Iowa College of Law.

DNP joins Bismarck Cancer Center

Tanner Stavn has joined the Bismarck Cancer Center medical team as of August.

Stavn holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Mary and an undergraduate degree from North Dakota State University. His background includes experience at CHI St. Alexius, where he served in both the medical/neuro unit and the interventional radiology department.

In his role, he provides follow-up care for people who have completed their cancer treatments.

Two earn certifications

Aparna SubramanianBranden Rasmussen, members of the Dakota Carrier Network information systems team in Bismarck, recently earned industry certifications.

Subramanian completed Optical Communications Associate certification through Ciena. This certification equips professionals with essential skills in optical network design and optimization, focusing on increasing network capacity and efficiency.

Rasmussen recently completed CompTIA Linux+ certification. This certification also includes CompTIA Systems Support Specialist and CompTIA Linux Network Professional.

Association employee honored

The North Dakota Stockmen's Association acknowledged four employees for their longtime service to the state's livestock industry during a special awards ceremony at the NDSA's 95th Annual Convention & Trade Show in Bismarck last month.

An area employee is Arly Schumacher, Mandan, honored for 25 years of service to the NDSA as a brand inspector. He is the inspector in charge at Napoleon Livestock in Napoleon. He was also previously assigned to Herreid Livestock Market in Herreid, South Dakota. He and his wife Cara run a cow-calf and farming operation.

Financial advisers included on list

Joel Bird and Jason Kirchmeier, private wealth advisers with Ameriprise Financial in Bismarck, have been named to the list of "Forbes Top 250 Wealth Advisors" published by Forbes.
