Minnesota Gov. J.A.O. Preus, by executive order, prohibited the hunting of ring-necked pheasants and closed the season scheduled for Oct. 13-18. The move was recommended by the state game and fish commissioner.

Burglars broke into Joe Rossi's grocery store at 601 W. Fourth St. in Duluth and made off with $20 in cash and an undetermined amount of hams, bacon and lunch meat. The case was linked to the burglary of Hermantown Cash and Carry Market, where earlier this month, more than $1,000 worth of meat was stolen.
