Cabot man sentenced to more than 16 years for possession of firearm as a felon

CABOT, Ark. – A Cabot man was sentenced to more than 16 years in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas, George Tavis Marino, II was sentenced to 200 months in prison and five years of supervised release Wednesday.

Marino was indicted Aug. 1, 2023, on one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. He pleaded guilty on March 21.

State officials said an investigation revealed that Marino was involved in a traffic stop conducted by Arkansas State Police in May 2022 in Jacksonville. Officials said the Marino was seen reaching under his seat during the traffic stop.

After being instructed to exit the vehicle, state officials said Marino exited through the vehicle's window and fled the scene after resisting the state trooper.

During a search of the vehicle, officials said they found a loaded Hi-Point, model C9, 9mm pistol.

Marino was later found at a Walmart parking lot in Jacksonville and taken into custody.

State officials said Marino had a criminal background including 21 prior felony convictions.The maximum penalty he faced was between 15 years and life in prison, five years supervised release and a fine of $250,000.
