Charges are filed against Sharon Hill woman in rear-ending Chester police cars on I-95, resulting in a fiery crash
Charges have been filed against Kenniah Irvin, 20, Sharon Hill, for allegedly driving under the influence after her car rear-ended a Chester police vehicle at a traffic stop on Interstate 95 south early Saturday Nov. 11, resulting in a fiery chain-reaction collision that involved three police vehicles.
Pennsylvania State Police said Irvin was driving a white 2022 Nissan Sentra that rear-ended a police cruiser, whose officer was assisting another officer who had stopped a vehicle for numerous traffic violations.
Three people suffered injuries, but none were life threatening. No police officers were injured in the crash, which occurred at 3:02 a.m. at mile marker 4.5 in Chester.
While charges have been filed, a preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
It was determined by state police investigators that a Chester police unit had been out conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle for numerous traffic violations.
Two additional Chester units arrived as backup for the initial officer’s traffic stop and positioned their respective patrol units directly behind the initial police vehicle.
The 20-year-old was traveling in the center lane as her car approached the traffic stop scene, and it hit the last Chester vehicle in line, causing a chain reaction.
Fire and medics were summoned. Crews were able to extinguish the flames in about 20 minutes.
Irvin was taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center to be treated for unspecified injuries, where she also submitted to a blood draw. The front-right seat passenger in the Nissan was transported via ambulance to Crozer for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The right-rear passenger was transported for minor injuries.
The state police Forensic Service Unit and Collision Accident Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene to handle the investigation, according to the report by Trooper Joseph Sivo.
