'Chatterbox' Ainsley: Huntington Adoptable Pet Of The Week Ainsley, a 2-month-old female, is "the perfect fit for a family that loves to have a great time." Want to have a great time? Adopt Ainsley!

HUNTINGTON, NY — Ainsley, a 2-month-old female tuxedo, is the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter's Huntington Pet of the Week.

She was found wandering the local streets with her brother; the pair was separated from their mom and siblings, said Debbi Larkin, president of the shelter.

"What a terrible thought," she said.

The two were captured by a good Samaritan and brought into the nearest animal hospital, according to Larkin. While they were there, another good Samaritan was visiting with her pets, and one of the staff wanted to know if she would be able to find homes for both of them.

"So off they went with Amanda to find a home," Larkin said. "Ainsley made herself quite comfortable at Amanda's house with her brother. But, a local neighbor wanted to adopt the brother, and off he went. Now Ainsley was by herself, and the resident house cat was having no part of this little one, and the husband was sneezing up a storm because of his allergies."

The rescue was called upon to find Ainsley a new home. She arrived at the shelter last week and was partially vetted and immediately placed in foster care, where she will stay until she is old enough to be spayed and enter the shelter for adoption, Larkin said.

"Ainsley is a handful! She is so playful and energetic. If you walk in front of her she will attack and jump up on your legs. She loves all toys and the smaller they are the better so she can pick them up in her mouth and run with them. She is also a great escape artist..she is confined to her own area when nobody is home to watch her, but she has figured out how to get over the barriers with the greatest of ease. And if you walk into the room she will be running past you to get out before you can even close the door."

Ainsley has even taken to chasing the two resident kittens — they are about 8 months old —around the house. They are always looking for a place to jump up high and out of reach from her crazy shenanigans. And she eats like every meal is her last, Larkin said.

Ainsley has tested negative for FELV and FIV, negative for parasites, had her ears and heart checked, has been wormed, received her first set of vaccines and is litter box trained. She is scheduled to be spayed in about four weeks, so she should be arriving at the shelter by mid- December.

If you are interested in meeting Ainsley, you may call the shelter at 631-757-4517, email visit the Facebook page or visit at the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter.

The rescue is at 3 Verleye Ave., East Northport, and visiting hours are Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.

The shelter is also open from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday nights only for those who cannot make it during the daytime hours.

"This 'chatterbox' has your typical tuxedo personality traits: friendly, outgoing, talkative, curious, loyal and almost dog like," Larkin said. "Don't you have room in your heart and home for such a kitten that will bring lots of joy and laughter to you and your family? She is the perfect fit for a family that loves to have a great time. Look at her face...how can you resist?"
