Child sex assault suspect arrested at DWI checkpoint in Santa Fe

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – A DWI checkpoint in Santa Fe caught more than drunk drivers over the weekend. Santa Fe police officers set up on Camino Carlos Rey near Calle De Oriente Norte on Saturday. That's when they encountered 23-year-old Venezuelan native Dekker Oropeza-Alvarado with a child and a passenger in his vehicle.

They learned he had an active warrant for sexual assault of a child out of Dallas County, Texas. He is in the process of being extradited back to Texas.
