City of Chickasha hosts clean up event Oct. 16-19

CHICKASHA, Okla. (KFOR) – The City of Chickasha is hosting a four day clean-up event from October 16-19 in a effort for residents to take advantage of clearing their properties from unwanted items.

"We are excited to offer this free service to our residents," said Assistant City Manager Rachel Bernish. "We've listened to your feedback over the last couple of years and incorporated tire and hazardous waste disposal to meet the needs we were hearing about."

City officials say, residents can take advantage of free roll-off dumpsters as well as be allowed to dispose of tired and hazardous waste for the first time during one day of the event. Tire and hazardous waste disposal will be available on Saturday only, October 19 from 8:00 a.m. to noon, at Public Works.

Hazardous waster to be accepted includes:

  • anti-freeze

  • motor and gear oils, batteries

  • cleaners, corrosives fluorescent lights

  • aerosol and oil-based paint

  • pesticides and batteries

  • Smoke detectors

  • medical waste *latex paint will not be accepted, until the paint is dried completely then it can be disposed

  • According to the City of Chickasha, refrigerators set to be disposed must have Freon removed by a technician with a certificate of proof. A copy of your City of Chickasha water bill is required to be shown at the gate. Tire and hazardous waste disposal is available only for those with a residential water account.

    The Community Development Department says, a dump ticket will be provided for those who live in Chickasha city limits but do not have a water bill due to ongoing work or code violations. To request a ticket, please call (405) 222-6010 or stop by City Hall during business hours.

  • Time: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Date: Wednesday, October 16 through Friday, October 18,

  • Time: 8:00 a.m. to noon, Date: Saturday, October 19,

  • *The bulk waste, tire and hazardous waste disposal will be located just to the north of Public Works, and limb drop off is just south of the facility. There will be signs at the road to help direct traffic. *
