Clinton Twp. treasurer issues warning about scam callers

T.Davis49 min ago

Clinton Township officials are warning area residents about a scam involving threats made over the phone about people not paying township taxes and other bills.

The Treasurer's Department on Friday posted information about the fraud.

Residents have reported receiving phone calls from someone pretending to be from Clinton Township. The caller threatens to take residents' homes for not paying delinquent taxes or water bills, and pressing for personal information.

"We do sometimes contact our residents, but be wary of this scam," the Treasurer's Office said in a post on the Clinton Township website.

Anyone receiving a call from someone saying they are from Clinton Township inquiring about delinquent taxes and foreclosure, and demands personal information, or otherwise seems suspicious, are advised to hang up and call the Township at 586-286-9313.
