Colorado bracing for first snowstorm of the season
(WKBN) — The first major snowstorm of the season is hitting parts of the western United States including Colorado and New Mexico where the snow will be measured in feet. How much snow can these locations expect?
Snowstorm forecast
A strong area of low pressure is currently sitting in the southwestern United States bringing heavy snow to Colorado, New Mexico and even parts of Texas and Oklahoma. There are already many locations that have received large amounts of snow in the mountains of Colorado and New Mexico. The most snow so far is the 36′′ of snow that was measured in Rociada, New Mexico, but more is on the way.
While some locations have already experienced heavy snowfall, the storm is just about to start for heavily populated areas along I-25 in Colorado including Denver. The map below shows the snowfall potential from the winter storm.
The Denver area is expected to receive 8-12′′ of snow while parts of the mountains and plains could receive over 20′′ of snow! In addition to the snow, visibility will be reduced by strong winds which could cause blizzard conditions from New Mexico into Colorado.
