Kilgore Memorial Library will host a Humanities Lecture entitled “Citizens Speak Against Censorship” on Thursday, Nov. 30 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

An Alcoholics Anonymous meeting will be held at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Geneva on Thursday, Nov. 30 starting at 8 p.m.

Children’s Storytime with Lisa will be held on Thursday, Nov. 30 at 4 p.m. at Espressions in Aurora. A story and craft for children ages 3-8 (guardian must be present) will take place.

The Citizen Advocacy End of the Year Banquet will be held on Thursday, Nov. 30 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Chances ‘R’ Beer Garden. Country pan fried chicken, fried steak, homemade mashed potatoes, corn, beans, tossed salad, sweet fluff salad and a dinner roll will be served.

Rusty Antiques and Gatherings on the Blue will host the Holiday Gathering with Antiques, Crafts, Friend, Beer & Wine on Friday, Dec. 1 from 4 – 9 p.m. at Bottle Rocket Brewery, located at 230 South 5th Street in Seward. This sale will feature all of the great junk, crafts, candles, gifts, holiday décor, antiques, primitives and collectibles you all love to find at our sales at Gatherings on the Blue and Rusty Antiques BUT inside a fabulous brewery in Seward.

At Remembering Angels, Tabitha Hospice’s annual remembrance service, we light angels in memory of all Clients we have had the privilege to serve in 2023. Attendees will receive an angel ornament to remember their loved one. A service will be held in York on Friday, Dec. 1 at 4 p.m. at Foster Park located at E 2nd St. in York.

Sunday, Dec. 3

This coed 6v6 Holly Jolly Volleyball Tournament is just what you need to get ready for the holiday season! We will be playing surrounded by festive lights and holiday music in the background on Sunday, Dec. 3 starting at 10 a.m. at the York Elementary School Gym. Open to ages 18+. Sippin’ with Santa will be held on Sunday, Dec. 3 in Downtown Geneva from 12 until 4 p.m. Mugs can be pre-purchased from select retail businesses in downtown Geneva for $7 or by contacting Lori at Geneva Home Center. Then stroll the streets of the Geneva Square with that mug on December 3rd and get it filled with a yummy treat at participating businesses. Hop on a carriage for a ride around the square and get some pictures with Santa as well.

The Geneva Arts Council presents Holiday Tour of Homes Geneva, Nebraska, on Sunday, Dec. 3 from 1 to 5 p.m. Take a tour of four houses in Geneva: Todd & Megan Burda’s, James & Melissa Knight’s, Lucas Swartzendruber’s and Richard & Nancy Kohler’s. Tickets are $20 and available at Heartland Bank, Weaver Pharmacy, and Brick Road Boutique.

The Geneva Senior Center Soup Supper will be held on Sunday, Dec. 3 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the VFW Hall located at 109 South 10th Street in Geneva. Sloppy Joes, soup and dessert will be served. The Centennial FBLA and FCCLA will host a Family Christmas Party where everyone can enjoy a fun family evening celebrating the spirit of Christmas on Friday, Dec. 8 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Centennial Commons Area. Families with children in elementary school or younger can come meet and take a photo with Santa, write a letter to Santa, make a Christmas ornament, decorate sugar cookies, drink hot chocolate, listen to ‘The Polar Express’ read by FBLA and FCCLA members and do some Christmas coloring. This is a free will donation event to benefit the FBLA and FCCLA chapters. In order to plan for supplies RSVPs are encouraged.

York Parks & Recreation will be teaming up with York Young Professionals again this year to provide a morning of holiday fun during their annual Candy Cane Hunt & Cookie Decorating! We will hide candy canes throughout East Hill Park where we welcome you to come hunt and collect as many of them as possible on Saturday, Dec. 9 starting at 10 a.m. After the hunt, cookies will follow, provided by the York Young Professionals. Open to all ages.

The Christmas Store will be open at the Fillmore County Ag Hall in Geneva on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 8 until 10 a.m.

Local artist, Cindy McClellan, is offering a Wire Flower Bouquet sculpture class, at Espressions coffee shop in Aurora on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 1 — 4 p.m. In this class you will learn wire bending techniques to create your very own full bouquet of flowers. You get to keep your bouquet. This class is limited to 8 people. You must register in advance. All your supplies are provided. We hope you’ll join us for a cup of coffee or tea and get your creative juices flowing!

Chess Club will be held at Espressions in Aurora on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. Come and hang out with fellow chess enthusiasts at Espressions.

Sunday, Dec. 10

The Benedict Community Church will hold their Sunday School Christmas program at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10. The next Moving Forward meeting will be held that day at 2:30 p.m. and at 4 p.m. will be Carols and Cocoa. Church members will be caroling around the community before returning to the church for hot cocoa, cookies and an outdoor tree lighting.

The 2nd Annual Heart of the Holidays Festival will be held on Sunday, Dec. 10 at the York City Auditorium from 1 to 5 p.m. Starting at 1 p.m. come and enjoy some ice skating fun for the whole family. Make delicious s’mores at “S’moresville”, enjoy a Nativity Walk, see Santa’s reindeer and explore downtown York in a horse drawn carriage ride. Come and take pictures with Santa after his grand arrival on the York Fire Department’s Fire truck escorted by York’s Police Department at 2 p.m. At 2:45 p.m. the movie “The Grinch” will be shown in the Auditorium basement. There will be crafts, cookie decorating, food trucks, carolers, hot chocolate, cider, games, children’s books, the chance to create stuffed animals, balloon making, magic reindeer food, Christmas movie characters, dancing, music and puppet shows. At 4:15 p.m. a snowball fight will be held in the Auditorium basement and at 4:45 p.m. a balloon drop will take place. At 5:15 p.m. there will be a Christmas Light Parade and the skating rink will close at 8 p.m.

Henderson Health Care will hold a Hospital, Clinic & Surgical Suite Open House on Sunday, Dec. 10 from 1 to 3 p.m. HHCS is thrilled to extend an invitation for the open house of their newly constructed, state-of-the-art Surgical Suite. Join in for an enlightening and engaging open house even where you can witness firsthand all of the construction and renovation that has taken place on their campus over the last two years. MOPS, a faith-based organization where mothers from pregnancy through preschoolers can come together to share the joys and trials of motherhood, will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 12 from 9 until 11 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Stromsburg. They offer hot brunch, playdates, moms night outs, messages of hope to learn and grow, childcare during meetings and mentorship.

Grief Support Group (Seward) is open to anyone in the area who is experiencing loss or is in need of support. The next meetings will be at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at St. Andrews Church: 1014 N. 6 St., Seward.

Snowblazers takes place from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the York City Auditorium for students in Kindergarten through 5th Grade. Lunches will be provided each day.
