New! – "Great Gatsby"-themed bingo: at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 at St. Philomena Catholic Church Hall, 41 E. Baltimore Ave., Lansdowne. Doors will open at 6 p.m. The dress code is "Gatsby style." The event is a fundraiser of the Upper Darby-Lansdowne Rotary Club. Advanced tickets are $35 for 10 games. The tickets at the door will be $40. Attendees can also purchase special games, which will offer significant prizes, as well as tickets for 50/50 and basket raffle drawings. New! – A free self-esteem workshop: in two parts this month will be offered by Senior Community Services' Friendship Circle in its continued effort to promote healthy living. The first session, "Self Esteem: Building An Agenda that Works," will be offered at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6. The second class, "Boost Your Self-Esteem, Boost Your Mental Health," will follow at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13. Classes will be presented by Delaware County resident Dr. Claudia Curry, founder and president of the Institute for Women's Empowerment Inc. New! – Volunteers wanted: for Senior Community Services positions. There will be an event for anyone interested in volunteering on Thursday, Nov. 7 at Schoolhouse Center, 600 Swarthmore Ave., Folsom. Volunteers are needed at all four of Senior Community Services' senior centers. Volunteers are needed for receptionist, meal driver/runner, instructors, handyman and shopping coach with Aging at Home program, and counselors to provide guidance in helping others select the correct Medicare Supplemental package that addresses their individual needs. The event will also be an introduction and training session for new volunteers who began their service work in this calendar year. Veterans will be honored: from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7 at Schoolhouse Center, 600 Swarthmore Ave., Folsom. All veterans will be treated to a complimentary breakfast sandwich, cinnamon roll, mixed fruit, hash browns, juice and coffee, thanks for the SCS Advisory Council. The event will include a prayer, flag ceremony, speaker and open speech. People, who are not veterans, are also welcome, but must purchase their breakfast for $3. The Havertown Choristers: directed by Jennifer Cox, will present its Winter Concert on Monday, Nov. 25 at 8 p.m. in the Haverford High School auditorium, 200 Mill Road, Havertown. The Choristers will present a varied program including "The Promise of Living" from "The Tender Land" by Copland, "Ave Maria" by Stopford, "Do You Hear What I Hear" by Regney/Shayne, and "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" by Pola/Wyle. In addition, the audience will be invited to join in singing the "Hallelujah Chorus" from Handel's "Messiah" as well as a group of Christmas carols. The Havertown Choristers is affiliated with the Haverford Township Adult School. The concert is free but donations are appreciated.
Trinity Thrift Shop: 301 N. Chester Road, Swarthmore — entrance on College Avenue — will hold its sale days on Nov. 8 and 22, and Dec. 6 and 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. All proceeds benefit local community organizations. The thrift shop offers clothing, kids' items, household goods, linens, and books/CDs/DVDs. Widow/Widower Workshop: a Senior Community Services' Center Without Walls presentation is at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14 at the Concord Township Building, 43 Thornton Road, Glen Mills. The presentation will discuss specific laws and resources in place for those who are a widow or widower. Everyone is welcome to join the conversation and get answers from elder law professionals. Men of Action Brothers of Faith: will present a free Thanksgiving Meal Giveaway from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Lansdowne Farmers Market, 8 N. Highland Ave., Lansdowne. Meals will be provided and prepared by Foose Grill, 2 N. Lansdowne Ave., Lansdowne. All meals will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Wallingford-Swarthmore Kindergarten Registration: for 2025-26 is open. To be eligible for kindergarten admission in September 2025, children must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2025. The St. Pius X Over 50 Club in Broomall: is running a trip to Mount Hope Estate and Winery in Manheim, Lancaster County, on Monday, Dec. 2. The bus will depart St Pius X Church parking lot on Lawrence Road at 10:45 a.m. and arrive at Mount Hope at 12:30 p.m. Appetizers will be displayed and served upon arrival, followed by a traditional turkey dinner at 1 p.m. A vegetarian option of eggplant and quinoa with roasted vegetables will be available as an alternative. The meal will be followed by a special holiday performance and then free time in the wine shop. • Tomasello Winery and casino package on Wednesday, Feb. 26: Cost is $82, which includes lunch and a wine tasting at Tomasello in Hammonton, NJ and then a visit to an Atlantic City casino, that will include a coin package.
• The Turkey Hill Experience on Wednesday, March 26: Cost is $98, which includes a self-guided tour of Turkey Hill to discover how the ice cream is made and more, a box lunch and a tour of Columbia, PA with a step-on guide.
• Three trips are planned to Tropicana Casino in Atlantic City, each costing $85, with $25 back in slot play and a show. The bus will leave at 10 a.m. each trip. On Thursday, July 31, the show will be "Cher: The Ultimate Tribute. The Italian Cultural Center: Of The Delaware Valley inside the historic Lazaretto Building on the waterfront in Tinicum Township, is now open. Volunteers are needed to help out during summer visiting hours, which are 2 to 4 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first and third Saturdays. Nar-Anon Family Group: Courage to Live meets every Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Brookhaven Municipal Center, 2 Cambridge Road, Brookhaven. All those affected by a loved one's addiction are welcome. The meeting is wheelchair accessible.
The Delaware County Victim Assistance Center: in Media has been providing services to victims of sexual assault and to their significant others since 1974. The nonprofit agency depends on volunteers to meet the needs of clients 24 hours a day. Services include hospital/police interview accompaniment, and telephone crisis intervention. Volunteers receive a 40-hour training to prepare them for their responsibilities and are asked to provide support at least twice a month for an evening or weekend shift. The center offers free: and confidential counseling in person and through a 24-hour hotline to victims of sexual assault. It provides medical, police and court accompaniment. The center also facilitates support groups for adult survivors of sexual abuse, adult rape survivors, and teen survivors of sexual assault.
