Oct. 17—Conservation officers helped locate a North Conway woman who became lost walking her dog, along with the friend who tried to find her, Wednesday in Tuftonboro, officials said.

At 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Fish and Game dispatchers were notified of a North Conway woman, identified as Deborah Young, 60, who was off the trail and lost in Tuftonboro.

In a news release, conservation officers said Young was walking her dog on an old snowmobile trail when she got off the trail, ran out of daylight trying to find her way back and eventually called 911 for assistance.

Around 8 p.m., conservation officers arrived at the trailhead and were told a friend of Young's had gone in the trail and located her approximately four tenths of a mile from the parking lot. After receiving no word for approximately 15 minutes, conservation officers were able to make contact with Young via cellphone and determined that both she and her friend were now both lost, officials said.

Officers hiked in approximately a quarter of a mile and located the pair roughly 150 feet off the trail.

The pair were reportedly unharmed and in good condition, officials said.

In a statement, Fish and Game advised when attempting to help others, "make sure you are prepared with at least the 10 essentials so that you too, do not become a victim."

According to the Fish and Game website, the 10 essentials are:

Map; Compass; Warm Clothing, Sweater or Pile Jacket, Long Pants (wool or synthetic), Hat (wool); Extra Food and Water; Flashlight or Headlamp; Matches/Firestarters; First Aid Kit/Repair Kit; Whistle; Rain/Wind Jacket and Pants; and a Pocket Knife.
