LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Consumers Energy plans to expand its community solar program in Michigan.

The utility company plans to break ground on a 30-acre solar project in Jackson County. The project is called 'Blackman Solar' and is expected to start generating electricity by the end of 2025. These solar rays will generate power for the utility company's solar garden community solar program, which allows customers to support solar projects without having to own solar panels.

'Blackman Solar' will be Consumers Energy's fourth solar project across the state. Consumers already have similar projects at Cadillac, Western Michigan University, and Grand Valley State University.
