Coroner identifies man killed in southwest Bakersfield officer-involved shooting

The Kern County Coroner's Office has identified the as 39-year-old J Felix Guadalupe Manzo Chocoteco of Bakersfield.

The Bakersfield Police Department said on October 2, 2024, around midnight, officers responded to the 200 block of Blomquist Drive, where the caller claimed to have heard unknown voices in her home.

That is when police found Manzo Chocoteco, who had broken into the woman's house.

BPD said they tried to gain Manzo Chocoteco's compliance, however, he was uncooperative, resulting in an officer-involved shooting.

He was taken into police custody and taken to a hospital where he died.

Bakersfield police said in a social media post that one officer discharged his firearm. He was identified asOfficer Nicolas Gonzalez, who has been with the department for about five years. This was Officer Gonazlez's first officer-involved shooting.

Investigators with the California Department of Justice, pursuant to AB 1506, responded and assumed the investigation along with the Bakersfield Police Department.

The said as his DNA was spread through the home, none of their items were salvageable.
