Coroner releases cause of death for fire police captain found in Susquehanna River

A York County fire police captain whose body was found in the Susquehanna River on Friday died by suicide, authorities said. Tony Bortner, 51, was found in shallow water in Lancaster County on Friday, about two weeks after he was reported missing , according to the Lancaster County coroner's office. Bortner's body was found near Peavine Island in Martic Township , the coroner's office said. Authorities said there were no suspicious circumstances tied to his death. Bortner was the fire police captain of Laurel Fire Co. No. 1 in Windsor, where he lived. His vehicle was found on Oct. 19, two days after he had last been heard from, the fire company wrote on Facebook.
