Could it snow in Portland Thursday?

S.Wright3 months ago
Quick! Look at your weather app! In Portland, at least a few people on Thursday morning saw the words “Snow forecasted” on the screen.

But, according to the National Weather Service in Portland, it’s a false alarm.

“I’m not seeing any precipitation right now,” said Jacob Hall, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Portland.

It should start to rain today, Hall said, but that precipitation is expected to stay in its wet water form.

Up higher, the story is different.

“Currently, the snow level is around 4,000 feet,” Hall said, “and it will lower but it won’t lower to the point where there will be snow on the valley floor.”

How much lower? Only to about 3,000 feet.

So, don’t get your sled out just yet. The rest of the week and through Monday it should continue to rain. And the highs will go up. Thursday, the high should be about 40 degrees. Friday, that will go up to 50 and after Sunday the highs are expected to be in the mid-50s.
