“Couldn’t be happier” Montgomery, Peoria High offense off to lightning fast start

PEORIA, Illinois (WMBD) – The Peoria High Lions may be under new leadership with Aaron Montgomery, but they've still rolled out to a 4-0 start. But that doesn't mean it's been a cakewalk for him or his team.

This year saw Breon Green take command under center. Coach Montgomery looked to veteran wide receiver TQ Webb to guide him.

"Not the traditional leader maybe," Montgomery said. "And as far as being vocal, his leadership is kind of his actions and it is truly beneficial to have a guy who's been a three year starter in the program kind of understand the expectation that come along with that."

During the offseason, TQ and Breon spent weeks working on their route timing.

"Timing with the receivers, knowing different...like every receiver has their own skill.," Green said. "They're all unique and different their own way. There's been a lot of hours and time on at the field getting our timing down and everything like that."

The Lions are lighting up the scoreboard, over 140 points in their last two games alone. They know there's still plenty to fix before the playoffs begin in six weeks.

Webb said, "We need better practices, we need to lock in, build more chemistry, be in the weight room every day.

Montgomery added, "Not bypassing the small details that can get us where we want to go. Right. So just being elite with the little."
