Woman sentenced
in assault of kids
A city woman convicted of beating her children was sentenced Monday to just
less than one to two years in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility.
Nicole Butler, 26, of Lee Park Avenue, was convicted in September of three
counts of simple assault and reckless endangerment for beating three of her
children with metal hangers, extension cords and a plastic baseball bat.
Police said Butler beat the children, ages 9, 8 and 7, during the summer of
Judge Michael Conahan ordered Butler to serve three years probation after her
release from prison.

Duryea man enters
sexual assault plea
A Duryea man pleaded guilty Monday to aggravated indecent assault for
sexually assaulting a mentally retarded woman.
Ronald Ramage, 51, was charged with the May 4 assault on a woman at the
Ahearn Personal Care Home in Duryea, where Ramage and the woman lived.
The woman told police she was sitting with Ramage, who is blind, on a couch
when Ramage fondled and molested her. She told Ramage to stop, but he
continued, police said.
Ramage entered the plea before Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas Judge
Michael Conahan. A charge of indecent assault was dropped in exchange for the
plea. Conahan will sentence Ramage on Dec. 10.
