Cowboys' Dak Prescott Doesn't Want Surgery on Hamstring Injury; IR Stint Expected

Rich von Biberstein/Icon Sportswire via Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Friday that he is still unsure if the team will place quarterback Dak Prescott on injured reserve amid his recovery from a hamstring injury. During an appearance on 105.3 The Fan (h/t Jon Machota of The Athletic), Jones added Prescott "doesn't want surgery. He wants to be on the field and go for it. We'll just see how it goes here." Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones later told 105.3 The Fan that the team expects to place Prescott on IR and he will miss at least four weeks: Prescott left last week's 27-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons with a hamstring injury, and it was later reported by ESPN's Todd Archer that part of Prescott's hamstring tendon pulled away from the bone. Jerry Jones said earlier this week that Prescott would likely be placed on IR. That came after Archer reported that Dak would probably have to miss more than four games. If Prescott is placed on IR, he will have to sit out a minimum of four games and would not be eligible to return until the team's Dec. 9 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Before the injury, Prescott had 1,978 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions on the year. He has taken a step back from his outstanding season last year when he threw for 4,516 yards, 36 touchdowns and nine interceptions to lead Dallas to a 12-5 finish. Even when Prescott was healthy, the Cowboys have struggled, going 3-5 with him under center. When Prescott went down in Week 9, Cooper Rush took over at quarterback and threw for 115 yards and a touchdown on 13-of-25 passing. Rush, who has spent all seven of his NFL seasons with Dallas but has seen little playing time, is in line to start until Prescott is cleared to return. That includes Sunday's home game against the NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles. After Prescott signed a historic four-year, $240 million contract this offseason, fans were hoping to get a full, productive season out of him. Things haven't gone that way so far, but Prescott will look to make the most of the year once he's back on the field.
