Creighton women's soccer loses to Georgetown in Big East opener

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Maja Lardner scored with 16:08 left to give Georgetown a 1-0 win over Creighton in the Big East women's soccer opener Sunday.

Lardner, who came into the match with four goals on the season, lined a shot from the top of the 18-yard box past a diving Alyssa Zalac.

Georgetown (5-1-3) finished with a 9-2 edge in shots on goal and 12-5 in corner kicks. Zalac kept the Bluejays close as she finished with a career-high eight saves.

Creighton (3-3-1) returns home to face Villanova at 6 p.m. Thursday.
