G.Evans25 min ago

As a reminder that the fire season is still here despite recent precipitation, the Butte-Silver Bow Fire Department reported Sunday that there was a new wildland fire north of Butte in the Sheep Creek Drainage between the Lowland Road and I-15 in Jefferson County.

The fire was estimated to be at 15 acres, with numerous dead and downed trees in the area.

Air resources are working on the fire as ground crews try to make access into the fire. No structures are currently threatened.

Also on Sunday, firefighters with B-SB Fire Department, along with volunteers from Terra Verde Volunteer Fire Department, and Boulevard VFD responded to a fire around the Highland Campground.

Crews found a small fire burning in brush and some timber. The forward progression of the fire was stopped by passersby, and crews contained the fire and mopped up hot spots.

Officials with the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest then took over and will monitor it over the next few days.
