Cumberland County man charged with impersonating deputy U.S. Marshal

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — A Cumberland County man was charged with impersonating a deputy U.S. Marshal.

According to the Office of the Attorney General, William Graves, Jr., 50, of New Cumberland, allegedly falsely represented himself as a deputy U.S. Marshal on multiple occasions in 2022 and 2023.

During a traffic stop conducted by Pennsylvania State Police, Graves allegedly claimed he worked with the U.S. Marshals and showed a U.S. Marshal badge and identification, per the AG's Office.

Graves also allegedly told others that he was engaging in catching fugitives.

Graves case was investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Pennsylvania State Police, according to the AG's Office.

The maximum penalty Graves faces for impersonating a deputy U.S. Marshal is three years in prison followed by a fine.
