Firefighters say a curious pup was the cause of small fire that ignited in a southeast Colorado Springs home last week — and the incident was caught on camera.

On June 26, just before 5 a.m., the Colorado Springs Fire Department responded to a home in the 1600 block of Rushmore Drive after homeowners reported they had extinguished a fire on the stove.

Fire crews learned that the residents' Apple Home Pod had alerted them to the fire when it sent a high heat notification.

After a quick peek at the homeowner's security footage, firefighters determined that the family's dog had caused the fire by accidentally switching on the stove, which had boxes sitting on top of it.

The video, later shared by the fire department on social media, shows the dog's paw brush the knob after it stands up on its hind legs to sniff at the stove. Seconds later, fire erupts, and the room eventually fills with smoke, setting off multiple fire alarms.

The fire department said the male homeowner was transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation; no other people or pet injuries were reported.

Along with the video, the fire department provided the following fire safety tips:
