NBA Star Donovan Mitchell's Encounter With Original 'Spider-Man' Sends Fans Into Frenzy: "All I See is Aura"

It looks like Donovan Mitchell is having the time of his life. Just a few days ago, he bagged a massive paycheck after agreeing to sign a three-year $150.3 million extension with the Cavaliers. And tonight, he met one of his favorite childhood heroes who he idolized growing up, Spider-Man. Well, kind of! With everyone aware of Mitchell's unique nickname 'Spida', the NBA World was left in shock after the Cavs superstar somehow opened the gates of the multiverse by linking up with the original role player.

Enjoying his free time during the off-season, Mitchell shared an image of himself standing next to the face of the original Spider-Man movie franchise, actor Tobey Maguire, on his Instagram story . Likely linking up at a specifically themed party, both stars were draped in all-white, with the NBA star's arm around the Hollywood actor like they have been buddies for a long time.

Well, both their spider senses might have been tingling as Mitchell and Tobey have been linked together for years because of the royally famous character. Starring in the original trilogy from 2002 to 2007, Maguire is heavily considered by many as the real Spider-Man! Meanwhile, Mitchell has owned the 'Spida' nickname ever since he entered the league seven years ago.

Surprisingly, Donovan was given this name by a former college teammate's father because of his Spider-Man-like abilities on the court. During an interview in his rookie year, Mitchell let the cat out of the bag saying, "I had long arms, and I was quick to getting a lot of steals. I didn't think it would correlate to where I am now. He never called me by my first name, and to this day, he still doesn't. He'll text me, 'Spida, how ya doing?' Spiderman was one of my favorites growing up, and it just stuck with me. That's where it all came from."

NBA World excited after Donovan Mitchell-Tobey Maguire linkup Obviously, it did not take much time for the world to find out that they met. As expected, fans could not contain their excitement and marveled at the picture Mitchell shared, with one fan saying, "All I see is aura." Seeing two different Spider-Men in one frame, many also started sharing the iconic meme of the multiple animated Spider-Men pointing at each other in confusion. Moreover, this is not the first time Mitchell has collaborated with a superhero.

Five years ago, he also did a promotional video with the new-age Spider-Man Tom Holland for the movie Spider-Man: Far From Home. In the hilarious collab, Holland and Mitchell's luggage accidentally gets exchanged as Holland ends up with Spida's signature shoes whereas the Cavs superstar is seen messing around with the high-tech Spider-Man suit.

Meanwhile, one netizen let the world know how excited he was by sharing an image of the controversially viral streamer IShowSpeed's shocked reaction when he found out that Lionel Messi had won the Ballon d'Or trophy this year. While everyone is well aware of Speed's fandom for Ronaldo, he recently also showed up for a Lakers game and in his usual antics, started singing a song for LeBron James while the superstar was busy playing on the court.

The linkup between Tobey and Donovan also led the fans to relive the dream scenario of their favorite characters, Peter Parker and Miles Morales, coming to life as they did in the comics and video games.

While most people were buzzing about the linkup, one heartbroken fan was still dealing with the fact that Donovan did not sign with the Lakers. Before Mitchell signed the extension with the Cavs, there were reports about Rob Pelinka pursuing him to move to LA and team up with Bron and AD. Unfortunately for Laker Nation, that never happened and they are still looking for a star in free agency.

And one pessimistic fan warned Donovan to get out of Cleveland if he wants to win a title in his career. While Mitchell has brought the Cavs back to relevance in the last two seasons with decent performances in the playoffs, they seem far from becoming a title-contending team. And he might have to consider switching teams in the future for a better chance at winning his first ring, don't you think?

But maybe breaking the barrier and meeting the original Spider-Man will give Donovan Mitchell that special confidence and boost, to achieve the unthinkable in Cleveland and prove the critics wrong. What do you think?
