Death investigation underway after body found in downtown Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A death investigation is underway after a body was found in central Phoenix early Monday morning just half a mile from the Arizona State Capitol.

While details are limited at this time, police on scene tell Arizona's Family at least one person was found dead on the side of a road near 16th Avenue and Van Buren. Officers say there was "trauma" to the person's body.

The Medical Examiner's office is en route to the scene to determine the person's cause of death.

Crews are working to piece together what led up to the death.

Van Buren is closed in both directions from 16th Avenue to 15th Avenue.
