MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Tennessee Highway Patrol released crash reports regarding two Shelby County Sheriff motorcycle deputies being injured Tuesday morning in Lakeland along US-64.

According to the THP, the two civilian drivers could face charges. The first driver for failure to exercise due care and the second for failure to yield to the right of way. THP says those charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.

THP says in the first wreck, the driver was going north on Cobb Road while the deputy was going east on US Highway 64. When the driver turned onto Highway 64, THP says the deputy hit the left back side of their vehicle.

The deputy was taken to Regional One Hospital in non-critical condition. He has since been released and is expected to be okay, according to Chief Deputy Anthony Buckner.

The other driver was not injured.

While the deputy was driving east on US Highway 64, the other driver was going south on the driveway in the 9900 block of US Highway 64. THP says when the driver went into the roadway of US Highway 64 East, the deputy hit the front right side of the vehicle.

Buckner said Tuesday in a statement that the second deputy was taken to Regional One Hospital in critical condition and is on life support.

"We're pleading with the community to pray for these deputies," Buckner said.
