Did you see this morning’s rainbow? Just the start of a potentially wet week

B.Martinez3 months ago

Monday morning’s rainbow over the Wyoming Valley is seen from the top of the intermodal parking garage in downtown Wilkes-Barre.

The rainbow remained visible for at least 20 minutes over much of the area. This was the view from Public Square in Wilkes-Barre at about 8:45 a.m.

The early-morning rainbow is seen from Colonels Road in Hanover Township.

Becca Baran captured this view of the rainbow stretched behind St. Stephen’s on Franklin Street in Wilkes-Barre and submitted it to our Facebook page.

Break out the rain gear and keep it out — the Wyoming Valley could potentially see a combination of rain, thunderstorms and snow showers this week.

But Monday morning’s big weather event seemed to be the massive rainbow that appeared over the Wyoming Valley for 20 minutes or more starting at about 8:15 a.m., generating a flurry of photos on social media.

Alas, the rainbow will be followed by more rain.

Rain will fall today, with thunderstorms also possible after 3 p.m. A 100 percent chance of precipitation is predicted, with up to a half an inch of rain possible. Today’s high will be near 66 degrees.

Showers and thunderstorms will continue to be likely tonight. Some storms could produce small hail, gusty winds and heavy rain, and up to a half an inch of rain is expected. The low will be around 50 degrees.

A chance of showers will continue before 8 a.m. on Tuesday, followed by a slight chance of showers after 11 a.m. Partly sunny skies are expected otherwise, with a high near 62 degrees.

Partly cloudy skies, along with a slight chance of showers, are predicted for Tuesday night, with a low around 42 degrees.

A 50 percent chance of showers is predicted for Wednesday — otherwise, partly sunny skies are expected. Wednesday’s high will be near 56 degrees.

A chance of rain showers will be possible before 2 a.m. on Wednesday night, followed by a chance of rain and snow showers heading into Thursday morning. The night’s low will be around 37 degrees.
