Drew Brees will be in the Dome for Saints-Eagles clash

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Drew Brees will make a special appearance at the Caesars Superdome this Sunday as the New Orleans Saints face off against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Saints announced Friday that Brees will be honored as the "Legend of the Game," setting up another return to the field where he became a fan favorite during his 15-year career with the team.

Brees' appearance comes as the Saints have started the season on fire with a 2-0 record, sparking excitement throughout the city.

The atmosphere, already buzzing with excitement, is expected to reach a fever pitch with Brees in the building. Fans will have the chance to see an interview with the former quarterback on the Superdome's big screen.

While there's no guarantee Brees will lead the Who Dat chant before the game, Fox 8 Saints contributor Jeff Duncan says, "there are worse choices" to fire up the home crowd.

Brees' presence alone, however, is sure to elevate the energy in the Dome, which has lacked the same buzz in recent years.

SAINTS HEADLINES

  • Derek Carr fined for Michael Jackson touchdown celebration
  • Saints go from underdog to favorite over the Eagles
  • Surging Saints aim to rediscover their 'dome' advantage against the frustrated Eagles
  • The Saints are off to an explosive start in 2024, putting up 91 points in their first two games. Their offense, led by quarterback Derek Carr and new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, has dominated, with all their points coming from 11 touchdowns and five field goals. Their Week 1 47-10 win over Carolina and a 44-19 rout of the Cowboys have solidified their status as early-season contenders.

Fan enthusiasm, which seemed subdued during the offseason, has surged. Tickets that sold for as low as $11 in Week 1 are now going for around $200, a testament to the renewed excitement. Carr, who faced boos last season during his debut with the Saints, now senses a different energy.

"We had to prove it to our fans," Carr said. "We didn't give them good enough football last year. We knew if we want to do what we want to do, we were going to need that stadium rocking. And we have to play good football for that to happen. I'm excited for this Sunday and to feel that atmosphere, for sure."

The Eagles, coming off a 22-21 loss to the Falcons, will be looking to rebound, but the Saints' hot start and the added electricity of Brees' return will make "Dome Field Advantage" a daunting challenge.

Fans will be looking for a third straight win in what's expected to be one of the most charged atmospheres in recent memory.
