Driver that struck bicyclist in Smithfield charged with DUI

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WPRI) — A bicyclist is in critical condition after being struck by an alleged drunk driver Sunday night in Smithfield, according to police.
Officers were called to the scene on Pleasant View Avenue around 8:30 p.m.

The bicyclist was transported to the hospital and the driver, 38-year-old Lance Nicoletti of Smithfield, was taken into custody.
Nicoletti was charged with DUI liquor or drugs resulting in serious bodily injury and driving to endanger resulting in personal injury. He is due in court on Monday.
