Duke Energy awards grant to local non-profit, that helps Brazil families impacted by storm damage
PLAINFIELD, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Duke Energy Foundation is awarding local non-profit, the United Way of the Wabash Valley, a $4,000 grant to support those in the city of Brazil, Indiana impacted by storms spurred from Hurricane Helene, that moved across Indiana in late September.
In September, Duke Energy says they had approximately 82,000 power outages in their system, and nearly 1,650 were in the Brazil area.
"There's no doubt that our city was particularly hard hit by this storm, with many down power lines and vegetation," said Brazil Mayor Brian Wyndham. "Duke Energy worked around the clock to restore power, and now they're now making this gesture to further support our community. It's great to see this support from the company and their ongoing meaningful collaboration with the United Way."
At 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, Duke Energy and representatives from the United Way, mayor's office and local police and fire departments will be at the Brazil Police Department to hand out hams to these Brazil families impacted by storm damage.
