Duval Rundown: Will Brian Flores clown Doug Pederson?

Check out episode 29 of Duval Rundown, hosted by Gus Logue.

Gus was joined by 1010XL's Mia O'Brien for a live breakdown of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Minnesota Vikings ' Week 10 matchup. Doug Pederson's offense has a tough test against Brian Flores' defense, which ranks first in DVOA and takeaways per drive.

The Vikings are agents of chaos. Rather than allowing offenses to dictate the game, Flores has his players crowd the line of scrimmage and fly around after the snap. Opposing quarterbacks and offensive lines are never safe to assume anything, as defenders could go anywhere, anytime. Flores' constant "changing of the picture" is disruptive — but the best way to counter aggression is with aggression.

Though defenses generally perform worse when facing motion, Minnesota suffers more than most. Such a high-risk/high-reward approach invites broken plays.

Flores' group has allowed 14 offensive touchdowns to the 49ers , Packers , Lions and Rams this year, and just 4 to the Giants , Texans , Jets and Colts . The first four teams rank top-12 in offensive DVOA; the latter fall between 18th and 23rd. Efficiency splits aside, the common theme is motion usage. San Francisco, Green Bay and Los Angeles are top four in the category, with Detroit ninth.

Here's a look at how Minnesota varies when facing motion or not.

Against runs with motion, Minnesota is above average in EPA per play and success rate allowed; against runs without motion, they jump up to first.

Motion is a trusty tool for disrupting defenses, whether it reveals a coverage tell, offers a free release for a receiver, creates a favorable blocking angle, or simply draws a defender in the wrong direction. Doug Pederson must use it in both phases of the offense to create some chaos of his own against Flores.

Tune in for more!
