SHREVEPORT, La. ( KTAL/KMSS ) – Early voting has officially begun in the state of Louisiana. Voters are able to cast their ballots starting October 18th through October 29 from 8:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Early voting does not take place on Sundays, October 20 or October 27.

Charlie Allum, deputy registrar with the registrar of voters said people have come in crowds to early vote, standing in line starting at 7:30AM.

First time voter guide: Make your voice heard

"If most people remember how it was last time we had a presidential election downtown when we had 8,000 people that had to stand in line and come through one office. And this is much better for them because they have ten days to come and vote and they have two locations in order to vote in," said Allum.

Those locations are the Caddo registrar of voters office, 525 Marshall St. Suite 103, and Hamilton Branch Library, 2111 Bert Kouns Industrial Loop.

In order to cast your ballot, Allum says you must bring your driver's license or government issued voter ID with your photo on it.

Allum adds that appropriate clothing must be worn to vote.

"They can't have a shirt on with a political party on it, or with a candidate's name on it, and if they do, they won't be able to vote until they go out and take that shirt off or turn it inside out," said Allum.

Additionally, there is to be no electioneering within 600 feet of the polling place.
