ELY — The U.S. Bureau of Land Management is taking public comments for an environmental assessment on the proposed development of a herd management area plan for the Antelope and Triple B wild horse complexes.

The new herd management plan includes portions of White Pine County, Elko County and Tooele County, Utah, according to the BLM, and the proposal comes from the Bristlecone Field Office of the Ely BLM District and the Wells Field Office of the Elko BLM.

"The herd management plan will identify and set objectives for wild horses and their habitat in future years in support of our mission to manage healthy wild horses on healthy public lands," said BLM Ely District Manager Robbie McAboy.

The Ely district will be the leader for the environmental assessment process, and an initial evaluation describing key issues to be addressed in the plan is available for public review. The comment period ends Nov. 14.

The BLM stated that it plans to develop and issue a final plan within roughly one year.

The Antelope Complex consists of the Antelope, Antelope Valley, Goshute and Spruce-Pequop Herd Management Areas. The Triple B Complex consists of the Triple B and Maverick-Medicine Herd Management Areas and the Cherry Springs Wild Horse Territory.

The Ely District, Bristlecone Field Office administers the Antelope and HMAs. The Elko District Office administers the Antelope Valley, Goshute, Spruce-Pequop, and Maverick-Medicine HMAs. The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest's Jarbidge District administers the Cherry Springs WHT, according to the BLM.

Written comments may be emailed to or delivered to the BLM Bristlecone Field Office to the attention of Ben Noyes, 702 North Industrial Way, Ely, NV 89301. Noyes, who is a wild horse and burro specialist, can be reached at 775-289-1836 or .
