HudsonAlpha Wiregrass invites the public to learn more about the power of DNA and the field of genomics on Monday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m. as Kelly East, HudsonAlpha's Vice President of Educational Outreach, hosts the next "HudsonAlpha U" event at the Dothan Houston County Library located at 445 North Oates St. in Dothan.

"We're hosting this event to share more about recent discoveries in the field of genomics and biotechnology and will focus on why these discoveries are important," East said. "From human health to agriculture, the discoveries we will discuss affect nearly every American and it's important to understand how these discoveries impact our world."

"HudsonAlpha U" is the name of HudsonAlpha's public education programs, which help citizens understand genomics concepts. "HudsonAlpha U" brings discoveries and biotechnology applications to life through in-person events and online resources.

The City of Dothan and HudsonAlpha partnered in 2022 to expand HudsonAlpha's footprint into Dothan, creating the HudsonAlpha Wiregrass that focuses on agricultural research, economic development and genomics education. HudsonAlpha Wiregrass began operations in October 2022 and will eventually be located in the Wiregrass Innovation Center in downtown Dothan to open in 2025.

Additional "HudsonAlpha U" events will be scheduled for next year. The discussion topic changes for each event.

The "Recent Genomics and Biotech Discoveries" event is free and open to the public but pre-registration is required, as space is limited. To register, visit .
