Exclusive: Affordable housing lotteries open in new buildings across NYC

NEW YORK (PIX11) — If you are trying to rent an apartment in New York City, you know the competition is fierce and the rents are sky high.

But there are affordable housing gems in several NYC neighborhoods right now, including one on 10th Avenue and 41st Street in Hudson Yards.

This new building called the Mayberry has affordable housing units available and is one of dozens of housing lotteries currently open.

Great news for apartment seekers, coming from Aileen Reynolds, the Assistant Commissioner of Housing Opportunity, the trend in affordable housing is highly desirable neighborhoods, modern buildings, and amenities galore.

The building on 10th Avenue includes a rooftop sky lounge, a fitness club, and a yoga studio. 114 of the 453 units are considered affordable.

The deadline for applications is October 9. Apartment rent varies based on income and household size, with studios starting at around $1650 a month.

NYC affordable housing building next to waterfront promenade

Another affordable housing lottery on the Upper East Side is closing at midnight on Monday. The apartments at 300 East 83rd Street are in a brand-new building with 28 newly constructed affordable housing units, with washers and dryers in each unit. The building is also pet-friendly.

Make your way to Williamsburg, and there's a new building called The Welz at 159 Boerum Street . It's a beautiful 19-story building with 49 affordable units and amenities, including in-unit washers, dryers, dishwashers, air conditioning, and high-speed internet. The deadline is November 18.
